about

Weather Balloons and Falling Stars is the third in my 'tentacle trilogy'. On my second album, Ironbark, there's a song called 'Beast of the Air' which is all about fighting tentacled monsters in the sky. On my fourth album there's a song called 'Some Of The Creatures Have Broken The Locks On The Door To Lab 558' which is all about fighting tentacled aliens that have escaped from a secret government lab.

So obviously my 6th album needed a love song to aliens.

This is another frankenstein song: indie rock verse and chorus, followed by a quieter, layered section, then an acoustic interlude to finish.

lyrics

They smell a lot like love
And have beady little eyes
And every time they speak
They tell another lie

It's mirrors and it's smoke
It’s all make-up and ropes
Connects you to everything
So you'll never be alone

March on in their name
Call down our new friends
It's not where they've come here from
It's where they'll take us to

The taste is on my tongue
Salty and it's sweet
Family and friends
They never could compete

There's neon in the air
A promise thick as sin
Tendrils through your hair
Connects you to everything

March on in their name
Call down our new friends
It's not where they've come here from
It's where they'll take us to

Two of us coiled in desire weakness turns us to three and to four and to five
Feels like I'm floating, revolting and vomiting something, but don't count their eyes
Smells like familiar, like love, like regret, like the things that we taste when we die
Needles in veins, into eyes, don't we lie, when we lie down with things from the sky

But there's nothing in the sky at all
Nothing coming down to meet us
Only weather balloons and falling stars
Weather balloons and falling stars
