about

The best songs are those that touch on universals – things that every human being experiences.

The Beast of the Air is about hunting Sky-Kraken from an airship.

The best songs get to the chorus or hook as quickly as possible.

The Beast of the Air takes about 2 and a half minutes to get to the chorus.

This is kind of a statement of intent for IronBark as an album – The Beast of the Air is saying 'yeah, there are going to be twiddley guitar bits and synth noises, yes there are going to be rich chords and lyrics about steampunk stories. Yes I'm trying to write good songs, but it's not exactly pop.'

lyrics

The Beast Of The Air

We sprang into motion when they told us the news,
Half a herd snared by the beast of the air,
Propellers awhirring we took to the skies,
Off to destroy the kraken

And as we rose higher, our engines ablur,
A strange copper tang filled up our lungs,
Scent of the kraken,
Afloat on the breeze
Grew stronger the closer we flew

The beast of the air wails a song,
Wails a song to keep us dreaming

An eye through the clouds
Tentacles reaching
An eye through the clouds
Tentacles bewitching

The beast of the air wails a song,
Wails a song to keep us dreaming
