about

This one's just dark.

I know I've written plenty of songs about murder and mayhem and all sorts of dark characters, but they've always had a cartoon silliness to them. Whereas this is just about a serial killer, Hannibal Lector style.

Drop Dead got his nickname because he was so ugly, cos that's how people are. All the people who hang out in the same crappy bars have taken to pointing out that Drop Dead's punching above his weight, because he seems to have a parade of shockingly beautiful women on his arm.

Those are his victims, drugged up and paraded in front of his tormentors, before he does away with them and moves on to the next.

Yeah, it's literally a serial killer story set to music.

Good song though, eh?

Lead guitar is courtesy of Gareth Cole who puts in one of the best performances he has on my stuff so far.

I really like the chorus chords too which change key quite quickly in a way I am sure rips off David Bowie in some way: E G#m Eb7 G7 Cm Ab F# F#m

lyrics

The dried bones of the latest beauty
Silky skin all ripped and torn
An image to fit your outer skin

Shed tears, dripping make-up
The cost of washing coloured eyes
An image to fit your outer skin

Drop Dead's punching above his weight
A finger in their eyes
On his arm venetian soaked bare skin
A velvet coated lie
Drop Dead's punching above his weight in this watchmaker's world
The blood worms they all laugh at him
All eyelashes and curls

Cuts in the dark, branded love
Largest sin, metallic taste
An image to fit your outer skin

The King in Yellow, a queen in red
Clockwork smiles, tired eyes
An image to fit your outer skin

Drop Dead's punching above his weight
A finger in their eyes
On his arm venetian soaked bare skin
A velvet coated lie
Drop Dead's punching above his weight in this watchmaker's world
The blood worms they all laugh at him
All eyelashes and curls

Overflowing red
Overflowing me
Drop Dead's punching above his weight again
